The menu at this old-school hot dog joint features gyros, tacos, dogs and brats. Breakfast is served Tuesday through Friday mornings and offers omelets and egg sandwiches. The tiny bar is a beer-and-a-shot kind of joint; don't expect a lot of frills. During summer, the expansive outdoor cafe on Two North Riverside Plaza provides breezes off the river and great people watching. Be forewarned: Big Herm's is mostly self service; you will have to go to the bar or counter to place your order.

This is another tavern courtesy of Ivan McCullagh and Shane Cahill, the lads behind the Pepper Canister. You won't find a dog-theme here -- the boys pulled the name from the Irish saying "that bird is as fit as a butcher's dog," meaning that girl is a real looker. The bar features a custom-made tap system, designed to keep the beer extra cold, and offers a menu with top-sellers from the other bar, including burgers, fish and chips and the grilled chicken and brie sandwich.
